Every year I make a promise to myself to spread joy. It's maybe a small thing. But it's important. The more joy I can put out there, the better.
The intent of starting this blog was to put as much joy out into the world as I could. Every week I write about something positive, inviting readers to join my journey to live in a happy frame of mind.
I had another opportunity to spread joy while manning my table at the recent Whatcom Writer's and Publisher's Book Fair at Bellis Faire Mall. I gave out roses, tissue roses that I had made from different colors of tissue paper.
This was a particularly gloomy day, a raining cats and dogs kind of a day. Color is always welcome, but especially on a gray wet day.
I invited passers by of all ages to take a flower. Watching the smiles they brought, filled my heart as well.
One father congratulated me on all the positive messages found in my books. He said, "This is a time where we need more joy in our lives. Thank you for doing this", as his little girl fastened a purple rose in her curly hair.
Two elderly ladies (older than me even) each took a rose and I could see that it was bringing a spark of light into their day.
Writer's don't make a lot of money, if any. but if we can put some more happiness out there.
That's a huge reward.
