I have strung lights around my windows. Put up my tree and decorated it. Wrapped my presents and shipped those that go to Montana. I've written and sent my Cards. My shopping is nearly complete. I have one last person to shop for.
Me! I've been pretty good this year... Met some goals. Helped other people. Spread some joy. I'm a big believer in rewards. I also believe in supporting local artists. So my gift to myself will be something special made by someone with lovely intentions.
I found her booth at the Pacific Arts Market, where I am also a vendor. It's part of the joy I have in participating in this event every year, celebrating the season with people who make beautiful things. Tong Holzinger, potter and owner of Timeless Creation Ceramics, makes truly elegant bowls and vases. There is quiet strength in their form. It's a creation of enduring delicacy. Something I could never make but will always appreciate. Her pieces reflect her personal energy, exuding power and sensitivity effortlessly.
Being a practical Taurean, I also like buying beautiful things that I can use. These porcelain bowls spoke to me, with a celadon color I love and a pattern that is organic. There is textured detail on the outside that doesn't show in the photograph. The more I looked at it, the more I appreciated the fineness of its creation.
I bought two! So I will continue to appreciate the beauty of this reward to myself. I feel in balance. I'm ready to give generously of my time, at least, and live a mostly frugal life in retirement.
I highly recommend giving gifts to yourself at birthdays and Christmas. You are the person who knows you best, who is with you always, even at your worst. Self love isn't selfish. Self care is vital to your happiness and to longevity, according to research.
Be gentle with yourself, be kind to yourself, and occasionally give yourself a reward that reflects your best self.
One more weekend left at Pacific Arts Market - Friday - Sunday, 10-6, next to Buffalo Wild Wings at Bellis Fair Mall.
