Look around. What do you see?

I see joy. I see it in a purring cat, sleeping curled up on a soft armchair. I see it in my grandchildren's faces, as they sit on a purple bench at Laurel Lavender Farm holding baby bunnies. I see it when my art friends gather to share their art and talk about art projects. I see it on Susan, my walking buddy's face, when we manage to meet up after weeks of postponing. When we walk in Whatcom Falls Park, I see it on the faces of all the people who stopped on the bridge to gaze at the beautiful waterfalls.
What else?
I see peace. I see peace in the huckleberry bushes, arms raising rain-wet leaves and red berries. I see it in the soft clouds decorating a blue sky. I hear it in bird song when I'm walking around Lake Louise. I hear it in the laughter of children, playground symphonies. I feel it in the sturdy old growth cedar that stands majestically in front of my house. I see it in the shared wonder of an amazing sunset on Bellingham Bay.
What else?
I see hope. I see hope in half-completed poetry journals. I see it on the sold signs of homes just purchased. I see it in school children learning about their world. I see it in blank canvases and books I haven't read. I see it in the produce section at Haggens, healthy meals to make for healthy bodies. I see it in my calendar, with dates saved for craft fairs. Events in the future all show me that there are possibilities of days rich with social interaction.
When you look around, what do you see? Mindfulness moments like these create bubbles of bliss in a world that can sometimes seem unbalanced or chaotic.
